When people in the West develop an interest in Dharma they rely on books to help them understand the diversity of views and how they function together on the path. We have come to Buddhism after receiving a modern education that has a materialistic orientation and so we have to try to not mix our western ideas with the teachings of dharma. If we take Dharma to be a \u2019thing\u2019 that one can add on to our existing beliefs then we are likely to become confused. Dharma is a path to freedom and we can most easily explore this by taking it on its own terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
